Digital Technology Gives New Jersey Plastic Surgery Patients a ‘Sneak Peek’ Before Going Under the Knife

New digital technology now allows New Jersey plastic surgery patients to get a sneak peak of their results before going under the knife. Patients report feeling less anxious using digital imaging and more involved with the cosmetic surgery process.

Paramus, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB ) March 7, 2009 — For any cosmetic surgery patient, trying to articulate exactly what they want done is often one of the most difficult parts of the entire process. Other than bring in pictures of celebrities or models, there was very little a plastic surgery patient could do to ensure that what they had in mind matched the doctor’s plan for their face or body.

Fortunately, this guessing game no longer exists, thanks to revolutionary advances in digital technology utilized by the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery in Paramus, NJ.

Using digital photography and computer imaging, New Jersey plastic surgery patients are literally given a ‘sneak peak’ of their results before going under the knife. Then based on the images presented, the patient can decide whether they want to go larger or smaller with their breasts, trim additional areas using liposuction or realize beforehand that they hate the way a celebrity’s nose looks on their face.

“Most people relate to visuals well. Knowing this, we created a method for patients to see images of themselves in advance of any elective cosmetic surgery. This has become a vital tool that has a high degree of accuracy in our hands and has proven an efficient way of communicating with our patients,” says Dr. Paul M. Parker, New Jersey plastic surgeon and Medical Director of the Parker Center.

To start the imaging process, a prospective New Jersey cosmetic surgery patient will first meet with Dr. Parker to discuss their desires and goals. Dr. Parker will then offer feedback and suggestions to clarify exactly how the patient wants their face or body to look following the procedure.

From there, the prospective patient will meet with the Parker Center‘s expert imaging consultant, Liz Kobb, to take pictures and participate in the alteration process. Liz has been performing computer imaging for 15 years and has traveled around the country instructing other plastic surgeons’ offices how to perform this valuable technique. Patients are simultaneously shown a variety of before, digital enhancement and after pictures of previous clients to demonstrate just how accurate the imaging really is in similar situations.

“People are always afraid of what they’ll really look like following plastic surgery, and digital imaging helps to alleviate that fear,” says Liz. “It’s also realistic. A patient may bring in a celebrity picture, but I explain that it’s like bringing in a picture of a certain haircut to a salon. If you don’t have that type of hair, the cut will never look right. It’s the same thing with cosmetic surgery. Instead, the patient tells Dr. Parker and me exactly what they want and we work through it together on the screen using their own features for a more accurate approach.”

To finish up the process, Dr. Parker physically uses the images in the operating room much like a sculptor uses his or her sketches as a blueprint to help guide the creation of the finished product. While computer imaging cannot guarantee results to patients, Dr. Parker’s experience as a surgeon, Liz’ experience as an imager and their collaboration together over the past several years have allowed them to accurately convey the anticipated surgical results to patients in a very high percentage of patients.

Clearly, the Parker Center‘s use of digital technology has paved the way for greater patient involvement, patient satisfaction and accurate results in the field of cosmetic surgery. But most importantly, digital imaging helps patients to feel less anxious and confident about undergoing an elective cosmetic surgery procedure, as they can physically see their anticipated results on the computer screen.
