After deciding on eyelid surgery, New Jersey resident Joe consulted Dr. Paul M. Parker at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery. Joe is a 42-year-old father of two young children. While his wife and family are busy taking lots of photos of the kids, Joe has been avoiding the camera because of the large bags under his eyes.
“My kids are 4 and 1 so we’re always taking pictures in my family. I got to hate the way I looked in photos. I always looked like I’d been up all night. The bags under my eyes were just unsightly. I couldn’t stand people always asking me if I was tired,” said Joe.
Joe was in his early thirties when he first noticed the bags under his eyes becoming more pronounced. He knew he was young to have this problem, but it ran in his family. His mom had always had the same issue.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation surgery) can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids or both. It is generally performed on men and women over 30, though sometimes in younger patients whose bags make them look prematurely old and tired. It can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures.
About ten years ago, Joe had seen an ear, nose and throat specialist (otolaryngologist) for removal of nose polyps. That doctor offered plastic surgery as well and offered to take care of the bags under his eyes. At the time Joe was not comfortable with the idea of this doctor or performing the surgery in his office under local anesthesia, so he backed out.
Joe didn’t really ever forget about fixing his bags under his eyes but got distracted with everyday life. Joe put off having it done telling himself: 1) the procedure wasn’t really necessary, 2) his wife thought he was fine, and 3) he didn’t have the money etc. In those years, Joe bought every cream, matte-powder, and miracle cure on the market to no avail.
Recently, Joe decided he had tried everything possible and began exploring the idea of surgery again. He researched eyelid surgery on the internet and came across Dr. Parker’s website. Of all the plastic surgeon websites he found on eyelid surgery, New Jersey plastic surgeon, Dr. Parker’s site gave him the most information.
Joe had three criteria for selecting a surgeon. He wanted someone local, a surgeon with a good reputation and experience in that procedure. Joe found all that and more at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery.
“When I met Dr. Parker, I really liked the way he talked with me, and explained everything. The Parker Center was great. It’s hard to explain but I felt like everything came together, the website, the office and meeting Dr. Parker. It made me feel confident about his ability to fix this problem for me,” said Joe.
Joe had his surgery on a Friday, and had his wife to help him the first few days after surgery because his vision was blurry. He describes his recovery as uncomfortable for the first few days but not painful. Joe had the surgery in July and is thrilled with his results.
Joe was very private about his surgery and didn’t tell anyone except his wife. He believes that the surgery was something he did for himself and wanted to keep it quiet. In the past, Joe always felt that people were judging him based on his “tired” appearance and just didn’t want to deal with the problem anymore.
“I’m really very happy with the way my surgery turned out. My eyes look so natural and so much better than before. I face people directly. I never mind having my photo taken, and it’s given me back my self-confidence. I look younger and more well rested. My eye problem is part of my past. My wife who was very supportive, thinks my eyes look great,” Joe stated about his eyelid surgery.
