26-year-old Matt is a young, single guy whose daily life was burdened by a condition many men face. Gynecomastia or enlarged male breast tissue is a condition that affects men of all ages. Matt has had the problem since puberty and attempted to hide the condition by wearing large loose clothing. “I’d been thinking about doing something about my problem for a while now. I knew that you could have surgery to correct it, but I was afraid that it would be too involved. I assumed it would take a lot of time for recovery and leave scars, but I found out that wasn’t true,” said Matt.
Matt began researching several gynecomastia websites and came across Dr. Parker whose office was located near Matt’s parents. Matt was already familiar with Dr. Parker who had previously removed a cyst for Matt. Matt was pleasantly surprised to learn Dr. Parker had a lot of experience with gynecomastia correction surgery. Checking out the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery’s website, Matt was interested to see so many before and after photos of other men who’d had the same problem. He read many of the testimonials of other guys his age who underwent the gynecomastia procedure. Matt was able to read all about the surgery and educate himself on what he could expect. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that the recovery was not very long and the procedure would leave him with only a tiny incision mark.
“It was extremely helpful to read the stories and hear what other guys said. I realized I could do this, and I made the call to Dr. Parker’s office. Everyone there was so nice and really understanding. Even though I wasn’t comfortable talking about it, they made the process easy,” Matt explained.
Matt had the surgery on a Friday and was back at work on Monday. He took it easy at work the first week back with no heavy lifting, but otherwise he was back to normal. Matt chose not to tell his friends or co-workers, but his parents knew and were really supportive. Matt’s mom went to the Parker Center with him for the surgery and was very impressed with how wonderful everyone there was to both of them. Matt went to his parents’ house for the weekend to recuperate and returned to work wearing a compression garment.
“It’s been a couple of weeks, and everything is great. The best part is I never have to think about this again. I’m really looking forward to this spring and summer at the beach and the pool. I can relax and enjoy myself for a change. I’m so thankful to Dr. Parker and everyone there. I’m really happy,” Matt stated.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia and generally takes about one hour. Patients usually experience little to no pain, and most compare their recovery to the soreness after a hard workout. Most men are back to their normal activities in 3-4 days and back in the gym after two weeks.
