One of the most popular options for lip enhancement is “plumping” the lips with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Restylane and JUVÉDERM are among the many commercially available forms of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that sits beneath the lips to add shape and volume.
Hyaluronic acid lip fillers are an excellent option for nearly every patient because the formulations mimic the hyaluronic acid naturally found in your body. Lip fillers are considered an incredibly safe option that yields consistent results.
While you’ll want expert treatment recommendations from a board-certified plastic surgeon or experienced nurse injector, lip fillers are typically a great fit for those who:
Have naturally thin lips that disappear when they smile
Have noticed their lips look thinner or deflated as they’ve gotten older
Wish they had more shapely, defined lip edges
Are worried about small lines and wrinkles around the lips
Understand that lip fillers are a temporary improvement that will require maintenance treatments
Do Lip Injections Hurt?
While we won’t claim that any injection is 100% discomfort free, we can say with certainty that we do all in our power to keep you comfortable during your lip injection appointment! Injections typically only take about 10 to 15 minutes to perform, and our highly experienced nurse injector, Angela Parisi, uses a gentle touch and local anesthetic to help prevent unnecessary pain.
It’s normal to experience a bit of tenderness at the injection sites after treatment, but this should ease up by the next day. Some swelling and bruising are to be expected.

Depending on the specific product used, lip filler results last an average of 3 to 6 months before requiring repeat injections. This can vary from patient to patient based on how much filler was used, lifestyle factors, and even your body’s unique rate of metabolization.
We typically recommend patients return for a maintenance injection before their results have worn off fully. This allows for a more natural improvement.
How Much Do Lip Injections Cost?
Lip injections in Paramus, New Jersey, typically cost will depend on the product used and number of syringes needed. Fillers are typically priced per syringe, so the severity of your concerns and how much filler is needed to achieve your desired results will determine the final price.
Can You Use Fat To Enhance the Lips?
Fat injections are a longer-lasting alternative to achieving fuller lips. This treatment requires “harvesting,” or removal of fat from another area of the body, such as the knees or inner thighs, “purification” of the fat, and then injection into the lips. When fat cells from another area are injected into the lips, they survive by being “revascularized” by the existing fat cells in the lips. The survival rate after fat injections varies from patient to patient, anywhere from 10 to 80%. The fat that is revascularized becomes incorporated into the existing fat cells and should last a long time.
Dr. Parker can perform the injections using local anesthesia only in about 45 minutes. The lips are prone to swelling from a variety of stimulants, and fat injections are no different. Applying ice to the lips for several days afterward is most helpful to help minimize swelling. Our nurses will carefully review post-injection instructions with you.
“From the very beginning Dr. Parker and his staff have been nothing but top notch. They truly are the best of the best and I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
