Threading multiple fine sutures through the skin’s deeper layers immediately lifts and smooths mildly sagging skin and stimulates the production of new collagen. This thread lift, a nonsurgical facelift alternative performed in Paramus, New Jersey at Parker Center for Plastic Surgery, minimizes folds, wrinkles, and jowls without the downtime of surgery. The procedure gets its name from the thread used in the sutures, which is made from an FDA-approved, biocompatible material called PDO (polydioxanone).

One of the first signs of aging that many women and men notice is the loss of definition along the jawline and chin as the skin loosens and sags. This occurs as facial bones and fat shrink, and the body produces less collagen. Folds, jowls, and wrinkles gradually appear until you look in the mirror (or your face on a Zoom call) and are surprised by how old you look. If you’re not ready for facelift surgery, a PDO thread lift is a solution at our Paramus practice for people from Ridgewood, Mahwah, Somerset, and Hackensack, NJ.

Facelift surgery is the gold standard for people with moderate to severe skin sagging who want to reverse the toll aging has had on their appearance. But not everyone wants or needs invasive plastic surgery. A thread lift is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure that involves inserting threads below the skin’s surface to lift the tissue. The most popular type of this technique is the PDO thread lift.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a PDO Thread Lift?
Men and women who benefit the most from PDO thread lift procedures are typically in their late 30s to mid-50s who want their faces to reflect the youthfulness they feel without undergoing surgery. Even though a thread lift can be performed on many areas of the body, the most common areas include:
Cheeks
Jawline
Neck
Brows
Thread lifts can be combined with dermal fillers such as a product from the RHA® Collection or JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, which last longer than other fillers and restore volume to the cheeks. Getting injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic at the same time minimizes expression lines such as crow’s feet for a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
What Happens During a PDO Thread Lift?
A thread lift begins with the practitioner marking the insertion locations for the threads. After numbing the area with a local anesthetic, the practitioner inserts a thin needle called a cannula with the thread attached and passes it under the skin’s surface. They then pull the thread tight, creating tension and lifting the tissue. The process is repeated until achieving the desired results.
The procedure typically takes less than an hour, and patients return home afterward.
When Do You See Results?
The results of a PDO thread lift can be seen immediately. Additionally, because the procedure triggers the skin’s natural healing process, you’ll continue to see improvement as new collagen is produced during the ensuing 3 to 4 months. The results of a thread lift may last up to a year.
How Much Does a PDO Thread Lift Cost?
At the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery in Paramus, New Jersey, the cost of a PDO thread lift will depend on the extent of the procedure needed to produce the desired results. After your consultation, we’ll provide a detailed price quote that you can review.
