Dr. Parker in His Own Words

When did you decide to become a doctor?
I spent a summer during high school working in an emergency room near my home in New Jersey and saw how the doctors and nurses interacted with patients. It really appealed to me.
What led you to plastic surgery?
After earning my medical degree, I completed a 5-year general surgery residency at the prestigious NYU/Bellevue Medical Center and was then accepted for a 2-year plastic surgery residency, where I learned from some of the most renowned plastic surgeons in the world. It was an amazing experience.
What lessons did you learn at NYU/Bellevue?
I learned many valuable lessons during my training that inform my practice philosophy to this day: Listen to your patients, treat them with respect, never rush, and never leave the OR until you’ve done everything possible to make the results look perfect.
Why do you find plastic surgery so satisfying?
During my training, I loved combining technical skills with an evolving sense of aesthetics to achieve superb results. My aesthetic eye continued evolving during my career and I’ve honed my surgical techniques, so I get better results than ever after years of experience.
Do you have favorite procedures?
I love performing rhinoplasty because it requires such precision and a delicate touch when done well. It’s considered one of the most challenging cosmetic procedures to perform, but I have a very high patient satisfaction rate. Many plastic surgeons don’t perform rhinoplasty surgeries. It makes my day when we remove a nasal splint at the first post-op visit and see the patient’s look of joy.
Another procedure I enjoy performing is the mommy makeover because it makes such a difference in the patient’s body image and self-esteem. A few years ago, I wrote a book called What To Expect After You’re Done Expecting, which discusses the ways pregnancy changes a woman’s body. No number of workouts or dieting can tighten excess skin or restore volume to deflated breasts.
What sets your practice apart?
I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful, nurturing team. Our goal is to take excellent care of our patients and provide them with excellent results and a positive experience. We spend a great deal of time educating our patients about the procedure they want, including what to expect before, during, and after their surgery. Our anesthesiologists and OR team are second to none in providing top-flight care, and our Rapid Recovery program helps patients heal as comfortably and quickly as possible.
What’s the most gratifying part of being a plastic surgeon?
Hearing patients say, “Thank you,” and having them tell me how much I have improved their lives is why I love my job so much.
